Date published: 20 April 2018

A plain clothes burglary operation in the Kingsway area  from Tuesday 17 April to Friday 20 April late evening into the early hours.

A spokesperson for the Kingsway and Kirkholt Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "This was part of our response to an increase in burglary and theft from motor vehicle offences over recent weeks which has caused concern for some local residents. Officers have targeted hot spot areas and individuals who may be involved in such offences.

"On Thursday 19 April, officers deployed on the operation responded to a report of a vehicle being broken into and detained a male nearby. The male was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and theft from motor vehicle and has since been charged with a vehicle crime offence with enquiries continuing into two other offences, he has been remanded in custody to attend Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court this morning, 20 April.

"On Tuesday 17 April, officers deployed on the operation saw a male juvenile acting suspiciously, he was detained after a foot chase and arrested for a fail to appear warrant for an offence of Racially Aggravated Common Assault. The male was also kept in custody and put before the next available Court.

"Over the coming week we will be working with partners to look at crime prevention in the area which will involve visits to affected areas.

"Please continue to be vigilant and security conscious and report suspicious activity to us, we have been able to target resources more effectively over the past couple of weeks thanks to information being passed to us from the local community."
