Free radiotherapy talk and tour

Date published: 14 May 2018

A free radiotherapy talk and tour is being hosted by The Northern Care Alliance at The Christie Centre at Royal Oldham Hospital on Saturday 9 June.

The Christie Centre in Oldham was the first in a unique network of Christie radiotherapy centres, where patients can access first class radiotherapy treatment from Christie experts, closer to home.

Local patients from Rochdale, Oldham,. Bury, Middleton, North Manchester, Tameside and further afield are treated at this centre for a large range of cancers.

However, rarer and more complex cancers are still treated at the main Christie site in Withington, South Manchester.

The event will give delegates the opportunity to find out more about the services provided at The Christie Centre and will cover the medical provision, how treatment is planned and delivered, complementary and support services available on site, and an opportunity to go behind the scenes to view the equipment and technology close up.

Open since March 2010, the centre has expanded its services enormously, increasing access for local patients and providing increased additional support.

The centre treats between 90-100 patients a day.

Julie Davies, lead radiographer said: “Community engagement is of great importance to the centre informing the public of our role and the work of The Christie is paramount.

"The team at The Christie continually strive to improve service and quality of care for our patients so we welcome the opportunity to invite people through our doors.”

The talk will be held on Saturday 9 June, between 10am – 12noon at The Christie Centre, The Royal Oldham Hospital.

To book a place contact Angela Greenwood on 01706 517302 or email: membership@pat.nhs.uk.

The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides.

So far, more than 12,500 people have signed up to become Trust members.
