Rochdale shows its caring side as hundreds attend special event

Rochdale’s Carers’ Rights Day was declared a success after hundreds of carers attended the popular annual event.

Carers of all ages packed into the Ratcliffe Suite at Rochdale Football Club to learn more about the dedicated help, support and advice available to them throughout the year.

The aim of day, which was organised by Rochdale Carers’ Hub, was to raise awareness and ensure the 25,000 carers across the borough were aware of their various rights.

Local organisations on hand to provide advice and information included Living Well, Alzheimer’s Society, Thinking Ahead, Rochdale Mind, and Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Circle – a local membership organisation open to anyone over the age of 50.

Staff from the council’s adult care team also attended, to promote and display a range of innovative services it provides.

 

 

Carers also enjoyed free health checks, pamper sessions, assessments, financial help, advice on winter fuel savings, advocacy and dementia support.

The event was officially opened by the carers’ choir, who belted out timeless classics to ensure the day started on the right note.

Councillor Billy Sheerin, Mayor of Rochdale, said: “This was a Carers’ Rights Day to remember and I was proud to attend and support our wonderful carers, who do such a brilliant job looking after their loved ones. It was great to see carers of all ages in attendance and everything about the day was very special.

“Our 25,000 carers are some of the unsung heroes of the borough and this event was all about thanking them for their wonderful work, as Rochdale showcased its caring side.”
