Ding Quarry campaigners launch new web site
Date published: 02 November 2007
Ding Quarry campaigners have launched a new web site to act as a focal point for news about the campaign to stop the quarry re-opening. The site documents the history of quarrying and planning applications, the 1995 campaign and details how people can get involved with the 2007 camapign. The site will be regularly updated with news and site visitors can sign up for regular alerts.
Support is crucial and you can give yours by signing up to the petition online at the new site:
Site visitors can also download 'Say NO to Ding Quarry' posters for display in their windows.
Council Leader Alan Taylor has thrown his weight behind the campaign, he said: quot;I remember the outcry 12 years ago to similar plans. Many of the veterans of 1995 are back against showing a sustained committment and concern for others that need applauding. Residents can have my assurance that this Council will be working hard to do everything possible to stop the plans. It has already been explained that this Council needs to look at imposing the strictest possible conditions. The safety of this Borough's residents is quite rightly this Council's number 1 priority and the potential increase in traffic in areas like Lanehead, Norden, Bamford, Rooley Moor Road, Sandy Lane, Ings Lane, Caldershaw, Roch Valley Way and the Brimrod Estate is unacceptably high."
Councillor Taylor has also confirmed that he will be attending the public meeting on 7 November at Spotland Stadium. He said, quot;I have cleared my diary to attend and I will be speaking to campaigners and concerned residents. I would encourage any concerned residents to attend the meeting and sign the campaign petition."
