Portable treatment units to bring 100 new jobs

Reporter: Kirsty Rigg

Approximately 100 new jobs will be generated as new mobile surgical clinics open up in town.

The portable units have been set up as an alternative to local hospital services, and will be offering treatments including general surgery, diagnostic tests and services in Dermatology and Ophthalmology.

Developer, Care UK, who has the backing of the Primary Care Trust, has opened up the mobile units on Union Street, Rochdale for an open day today (Monday 19 January), and will be open to the public between 2.00pm and 5.00pm.

Diane Royce, speaking for Care UK, told Rochdale Online: “This is going to be beneficial for both patients who are in need of care and medical employees who are looking for work.

“This is a new development and is the first of its kind in the UK, where patients can shorten their waiting times by coming to the mobile clinics for the care they need”.

“There will be about 100 extra jobs coming to Greater Manchester as a result of this, including clinical and administration staff”.

Care UK first proposed the mobile health clinics be set up at Rochdale Town Hall car park, but this proposal was thrown out by Rochdale Township planning sub-committee in July 2007.

Services will officially open in early February, when the cabins will move around seven different sites across Greater Manchester.

Again an open day to an important service to Rochdale can't be visted by the majority due to the open day being on a working day of the week. Why can't it be on a weekend?

It is very frustrating.

I wonder what the excuse will be for a weekday opening?
With the Nye Bevan Centre it was so schoolchildren could attend (?)
