Arrest made after arson attack in Belfield

Police are appealing for information after a house was set on fire in Rochdale last night.

Shortly after 10.30pm fire crews attended to extinguish a blaze at a terraced house on Blackstone Avenue in Belfield.

A 23-year-old man was taken to Rochdale Infirmary suffering from smoke inhalation. He has since been discharged.

The fire caused substantial damage to the house.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Officers believe that the blaze was started deliberately and are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the fire to get in contact on 0161 856 4646 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
