Seven year-old in a critical condition after mini-motorbike accident

Date published: 20 April 2009

A seven-year old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after his mini-motorbike veered into the path of a car on Sandy Lane on Saturday morning (18 April).

The young victim suffered a fractured skull, broken jaw and bruising to his leg in the incident, which took place at around 10.45am.

The boy was riding the bike on the footpath close to the Greave Avenue junction with Sandy Lane when he lost control and was hit by an oncoming Citreon Xsara.

Comments

Presumably the parents accompanied the 7 year old child? If so, why did the parents let a 7 year old ride a mini-motobike on a footpath meant for pedestrians?

Would these be the same mini-motorbikes that numerous irresponsible imbeciles used to speed around various housing estates, without any regard for others safty and well being. Now we find out that 7 year olds, with or without supervision are causing accidents and I assume unnecessary distress to an alleged innocent motorist. Any further action being taken in this matter and if so, who bears the brunt of it?

Why do people have to be so critical (see comments above)? Can people not think beyond their opinion. I agree that a mini motorbike is not something that I would buy for my child, however, child being the operative word here, this is a tragedy and my thoughts go to this child and his family and I pray for his recovery. x
