Council promises action against travellers
Date published: 28/04/2009
Travellers are still in town – and this time, have pitched up at Balderstone Park.
Between 40 and 50 caravans have appeared on the council land close to a children’s play area.
Rochdale Borough Council has confirmed action is being taken to move them on.
As previously reported by Rochdale Online News, the council has spent £5000 on a high security fence to stop travellers from using, and defacing, the playing fields at St Clements Football Club.
A spokesperson from Rochdale Borough Council said: “We are currently undertaking a health and welfare assessment as required under government guidelines.
“The results of the assessment will decide on the next steps the council will take with regard to eviction proceedings”.

There is only one sure way to keep travellers, off open land that is to put something on the land. Preferably Houses. Any open land that cannot be protected from these travellers. Should be fully assessed, and if there are no reasons not to build on it. Then Build.
