Action Mesothelioma Day

Action Mesothelioma Day ceremonies in Rochdale and Manchester were very well attended and the poignant events blessed with bright Spring weather. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Rochdale were in attendance at the International Asbestos Memorial in Rochdale.
SSV Campaigner and former National Health and Safety Commissioner Abdul Chowdry, who was killed in Pakistan last year, was also remembered. The Memorial Gardens now have a tree and bench in memory of Mr Chowdry.
A pledge was made to fight for an asbestos ban throughout Asia. Currently both Pakistan and India still import the killer fibre from Canada and Russia.
Manchester's Friend's Meeting House hosted a packed audience to hear speeches including those from Health and Safety campaigner Nigel Bryson and Michael Lees, who is making national news regarding the scandal of asbestos in Schools.
