Become a charity on eBay to help hospice

Date published: 20 June 2007

Springhill Hospice has added another opportunity for supporters to raise vital funds by registering as an official charity with online auction giant eBay.

Individuals and businesses that sell on the site have the option to donate a percentage of their sales to a charity of their choice, and, equally, buyers can now bid on particular goods in order to raise funds for specific charities.

Once registered with Missionfish, the company that operates the charity aspect of eBay, sellers can donate up to 100% of the closing price of an auction to a chosen charity. Successful buyers can also automatically Gift Aid their donations, which claims 28% tax back for the charity.

Ian Jenkins, Fundraising Manager at the Hospice, said: "This is a great opportunity for the Hospice to potentially reach people anywhere in the country or even around the world! eBay is a wonderful tool as it enables supporters to raise funds for us from the comfort of their own home with all the hard work done for them. All they have to do when listing their items on eBay is a couple of extra mouse clicks and the Hospice benefits.

"In fact, it’s a winner all round as the vendor gets to sell their item, the customer buys exactly what they want and the Hospice gains extra funds. I would, therefore, urge anybody wishing to find out more about how to help Springhill Hospice via eBay to log on to the Missionfish site and follow the very easy instructions."
