Easter cross still up…two months on

Reporter: Laura Wild

Over two months has passed since Easter, yet the Castleton Easter cross is still in place on the village green.

The Easter cross is erected each year by the Castleton council of churches at the beginning of Holy week then removed a week after Easter Sunday.

However, this year it is still in place and one Castleton resident believes that the impact of the cross at Easter is being reduced by its continued presence.

One Castleton resident said: “I am not against the cross and what it signifies, but, for it to still be in place so long after the feast will only detract from its importance in future years.

“Surely the council can take it down now or have they simply forgotten about it? If they wait any longer they may as well wait until they erect this years Christmas tree before removing it.”

Comments

Surley, this cross can never loose its meaning, Un fortunately the so called Castleton mischief makers, may decide that it should be removed, now that some Castleton resident, is complaining. Do not blame them blame your Ward Councillors. If they are about all over the ward, surely they have seen it, and they Run the Council.
