Shop owner stung in cigarette sale

Date published: 20 July 2009

A Rochdale man has been prosecuted after he was caught selling cigarettes to an under-age teenager.

Aqeel Ahmed, 23, of Drake Street, was working at a newsagent in Blackpool, when he was stung by the teenager, who was operating on behalf of public protection officers from Blackpool Council.

Ahmed was caught on film selling the cigarettes on a camera hidden in the teen's jacket.

The 16-year old had volunteered to go around shops to see if he would be sold tobacco.

Ahmed pleaded guilty to selling cigarettes to an under-age person and was fined £125 with £200 costs.

Comments

It is some times hard to tell if a 16-year-old is 16. Many of them look much older.

I know the shop keeper should have checked the boys age.

Then what next? An attack with some concealed weapon?

B est not to sell cigarettes at all.
