Greater Manchester Police launch rape awareness campaign

A new hard-hitting campaign, aimed at preventing rape and increasing reporting, is being launched by Greater Manchester Police.
Two 60-second TV adverts have been produced, which will be aired throughout May.
The ads are highly emotive in a bid to really hit home the effects and consequences of rape.
Ad one, focuses on reminding offenders "No Consent No Sex’ and if they fail to get consent, they could face a long prison sentence.
Ad two, is aimed at victims and highlights the effects of rape, the importance of reporting it and the support available.
Both scenarios are based on the end of a night out when alcohol has been drunk – as a large number of rapes happen in this way.
Detective Superintendent Mick Lay of Greater Manchester Police said: "We are always looking at new ways to get important messages across to potential offenders and victims of rape.
"We believe that the adverts will grab people’s attention and will reinforce the serious consequences of not getting consent for sex and on the other hand, will reassure victims that there is support available."
The ads have been created as part of the Force’s Talon campaign to reduce serious sexual crimes. It involves supporting victims, gathering and analysing intelligence, implementing robust police operations to arrest the offenders, along with prevention and awareness initiatives.
