Opticians raise cash on World Sight Day
Date published: 08/10/2009
Anyone visiting Paul Cheetham Eyecare today (Thursday 8 October) may have thought they were long overdue an eye-test after seeing Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne at the Lord Square opticians.
But customers did not need a dramatic change in their prescriptions - the celebrity couple really were conducting eye-tests inside the store...or at least, their fancy dress doubles were.
Mr Cheetham and his colleagues are supporting 'Optometry Giving Sight' as part of today's 'World Sight Day' and they decided to dress up in order to raise funds. Lorraine Bradshaw was dressed as the Prince of Darkness himself, while Paul came to work as Ozzy's celebrity wife Sharon.
Meanwhile Pauline Riley is swimming a mile in one hour, raising more than £200 in sponsorship, and Paul is donating all eye exam fees paid today to the charity.
Optometry Giving Sight funds eye exams and glasses for people around the world who would not otherwise be able to obtain them and provides local training of eye care personnel.
