Make a difference: Donate to the Poppy Appeal

Date published: 04 November 2009

Rochdale’s British Legion Branch is urging residents to get behind this year’s Poppy Appeal.

All money donated to the Poppy Appeal is given to millions who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces and their dependents to provide financial, social and emotional support.

The Royal British Legion and Air Force Cadets are currently selling poppies across Rochdale at the Wheatsheaf Centre, Rochdale Market, Asda, Morrisons in Kingsway and Tesco in Sudden.

Spotland Councillor Peter Clegg, who is selling poppies in the Wheatsheaf Centre and helped deliver poppies to all schools across Rochdale, said: “It’s great to be out and about selling poppies and raising money. I can’t honestly think of a much more worthy or needed cause. The people of Rochdale are always generous in their donations and I don’t expect this year to be any different."

Rochdale’s MP Paul Rowen said: “It’s great to see so many ex Fusiliers getting involved with the Annual Poppy Appeal. As always I hope that you give generously as the British Legion really do a fantastic job. I am looking forward to the homecoming parade in Rochdale for the 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers which is taking place on 30 November. I know that Rochdale will get right behind our troops and give them the welcome home they deserve.”
