Christmas magic comes to Rochdale

Date published: 18 November 2009

Rochdale Council has been working hard to ensure that the town has plenty to offer its residents and visitors. The wide variety of entertainment on offer includes a British art exhibition at Touchstones, tree planting, musical performances and of course this year’s Christmas pantos; Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty.

The festive season this year is being celebrated in Rochdale with a wide variety of events starting with the Christmas lights switch on Thursday 19 November. Among those at the event will be the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift, Fizz from the Tweenies and special guest Jamie Archer from the X Factor.

Other highlights from Rochdale’s Christmas calendar are the “Santa Specials”, a Christmas Fair at Ellenroad Engine House in Milnrow, a Christmas party at Heywood Civic Centre complete with four course meal and a special Christmas trail at Hollingworth Lake for walking enthusiasts.

Leader of the Council, Alan Taylor said: “I am delighted at the vast number of events that Rochdale has on offer this Christmas. Everybody has worked really hard to plan and organise these events and we are hoping that they will be a massive success.

"From the usual treats for children like a Christmas party to a spectacular musical performance by the Rochdale Youth Orchestra at Gracie Fields Theatre there is something for everybody.

"Christmas is a time of goodwill and community and we want to ensure that this year Rochdale celebrates together.”

Comments

Why is this Christmas any different from previous ones?
Most of the events mentioned are on every year, the only difference being it is a different pantomime.
One thing Councillor Taylor omitted to advise us on is the cost we will have to pay for each event.
A Merry Christmas to all.
