Date published: 06 March 2007
A 21-year-old man from Rochdale has been sentenced to nine months in prison at Rochdale Magistrates Courty, (Tuesday 6 March), for firearms offences and a series of driving offences.
Sajid Hussain (born 13/01/86) of Stamford Street was sentenced to one month in prison for a section 5 firearms offence (possession of CS gas) and one month each for four counts of driving whilst disqualified, to be served consecutively. He was also sentenced to a further 4 months in prison for breaching a previous suspended sentence for disqualified driving.
Hussain was suspended from driving for a further three years.
Between 14 January 2007 and 2 February 2007 Hussain was seen by police officers on four separate occasions driving a black VW golf in Rochdale.
He was arrested on Monday 26 February 2007 and subsequently charged in relation to these offences.
Police Constable Darren Wales from Rochdale said: "Hussain is a prolific offender who, despite being prosecuted several times for driving whilst disqualified, has continued to break his ban.
"He is well known to officers working in Rochdale and was therefore instantly recognisable when they saw him driving around the town. Thanks to the vigilance of these officers, we have been able to quickly recognise when he is breaking his ban and bring him before the courts.
"I hope today's sentence will show Hussain that his breaches will not be tolerated and make him think twice before breaching his ban again."
Sajid Hussain, was the driver who knocked down five-year-old Daniel Hennessy and lollipop lady Audrey Chadwick in 2004 before leaving them for dead in two separate horrific car smashes.
Hussain, who was 16 at the time, was convicted of failing to stop, banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay his victim £2,555 compensation - at just £5 a week! Despite this he launched legal action to try and get the compensation order reduced to £300.
Just a few months later he was back in court again after leaving lollipop lady Audrey Chadwick for dead in another collision and was sentenced to 18 months’ detention for dangerous driving.
