Ashfield Hill unacceptable say local campaigners

Date published: 02 February 2007

Milnrow amp; Newhey Councillor Keith Swift is working with Paul Rowen MP and local residents on Ashfield Lane to stop plans to put a huge sixteen foot mound of soil in front of their properties. Part of the Kingsway Business Park development involves transferring large amounts of soil and creating the threatened huge mound behind Ashfield Lane. However, Paul Rowen MP and local Councillor Keith Swift have both pledged to fight the residents corner and work with the council to come up with a solution that will not affect the lives of local residents.

Councillor Swift said: "Kingsway Business Park is obviously a huge opportunity for Rochdale however it is absolutely critical that we bear the views and lives of local residents in mind. What the developers are planning to do would blight the area and I agree with Paul Rowen MP that the issue is absolutely critical".

Paul Rowen said: "I had a positive meeting with Roy Jennings of Ashfield Lane, Milnrow. Residents in that area are rightly concerned about putting the mound in front of their houses. As a result of the meeting Council Officers have now agreed with the residents and are liasing with the developers of Kingsway to make sure that the development of the Kingsway area does not have a negative effect on their lives".
