Date published: 01 January 2010
Ghulam Rasul Shahzad, has been awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) in the New Year's Honours List for his services to social housing and to the community in Rochdale.
Mr Sahzad said: "I am very honoured for the OBE awarded to me by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth-II for the recognition of my services to the community.
"I express my heartiest gratitude to all he organisations I have been working with or am part of, agencies, services, schools, individuals and, above all, the people of Rochdale, and members of my family for their continued support over the last many years. They have always provided me with the opportunity to serve all sections of the community both locally, nationally and on international level. Without this support, these achievements would not be possible."

Is this the same person involved in the RoFTRA fiasco?
How can a person (RoFTRA Chairperson?) involved in such farce be even considered for an OBE?
Social housing in Rochdale is a disgrace, as is this man being awarded an OBE.

Many congratulations to Ghulam on his well deserved award, he does so much for the Borough in bringing all our communities together.
He is a very special person with a lovely attitude to everyone and always tells everyone how proud he is of Rochdale.
Really well done, Rochdale is proud of you, and thank you for all your hard work.
