Bin collections resume
Date published: 11 January 2010
Bin collections are taking place in the Pennines township today (Monday 11 January) following the cold snap.
Whilst the Council attempts to get collections back to normal as quickly as possible, only refuse waste (no recycling) is being collected today in Hamer, Littleborough, Milnrow, Newbold, Newhey, Smallbridge, Smithy Bridge and Wardle.
Weather conditions dictating, the council plans to collect for the rest of the week as per residents’ bin collection calendars.
Residents are asked to put the correct bin out from 7am on their scheduled day of collection. If residents are unsure which bin to put out this week they should call 0845 226 1800.
If any collections cannot take place due to ongoing weather conditions the council will attempt to implement other contingencies in the interests of getting bin collections back to normal.
Comments
I suspect the refuse collectors and recyclers will be working all hours to clear this back log.
Grumbling will not alter the weather.
Everyone seems to forget that when these wheelie bins first started everyone was screaming the rubbish needs to be emptied weekly.
Recycling bins, cardboard, paper, cans, plastic and bottles will stand an eight week cycle in some areas. These operatives are doing a fine job. If the weather abates, they will be back to normal next week.
It's a disgrace that bins have been overflowing since Christmas.
Also the recycling areas at Cutgate are overflowing.
Just because there is a bit of snow!
Everyone else has to resume their business, so come on Rochdale Council get your fingers out.
Have Your Say

I don't have a problem with the council having to suspend collections in this awful weather. But the way they are going about collecting the backlog is a farce. If I look at my collection calendar I won't get a recycling collection until next Wednesday. That is 6 weeks since the last one as the last 2 have been cancelled due to snow. How does that encourage recycling?
