High level of enquiries for Kingsway Business Park

Date published: 14 January 2010

Kingsway Business Park is enjoying a level of enquiries higher than any other business park in the borough, said Council portfolio holder for Regeneration, Councillor Mohammad Sharif.

Answering a question posed by his cabinet colleague Councillor Dale Mulgrew, Councillor Sharif said there had been over 200 "approaches" and that two had progressed to the point that a positive outcome was expected before the end of March. A further six approaches were significant enough for the Kingsway Partnership to be confident of commitment during 2010/11.

In his report to the Council, Councillor Sharif also explained the implementation of the Rochdale Future Jobs Fund has provided 67 people with new jobs and a further 150 placements are anticipated before the end of March.

Councillor Sharif acknowledges the continued rise in unemployment in the borough but cites work by Employment Links and Junction 21in helping to reduce unemployment.

Oh please!
When will people stand up and speak the truth about the Kingsway Business Park.
Mr Sharif, no amount of spin can cover the fact that the business park has so far created no more than 30 new jobs.
There were more jobs on the site before the Kingsway Business Park.

Kingsway Business Park stems from about 1980 or so, and could have been before that.
When it was first muted, one condition was that traffic accessing and egressing the site MUST have a motorway connection too and from the site.
30 years ago everywhere was far more industrial than it is today, but I still feel that Kingsway Business Park will one day become a very useful site.
