Man attacked by burglars in his own home
Date published: 04 February 2010
Two burglars attacked a man after they disturbed him in his lounge reading a book.
At about 10.30pm on Tuesday 2 February, the 46-year-old man was at home on Alexander Drive in Milnrow when a man walked into his living room. The offender asked the man the time.
The victim got up and confronted him, but the offender grabbed him. A second offender emerged with a screwdriver and attacked the victim with it.
The pair then ran out of the house, with a purse and handbag containing cash, and a mobile phone.
Both offenders are described as being white men. The man who walked into the lounge is described as being 5ft 6in tall, of medium to slight build, and about 18-years-old. He was wearing a light-coloured jacket and a dark woollen hat.
The man with the screwdriver is described as being about 5ft 8in tall. He was wearing dark coloured hat and a dark jacket.
It is believed the pair broke into the house through the porch. Throughout the attack, the victim's wife and three children were upstairs, and woken up by the noise.
The victim suffered bruising to his body and a bloody nose, but did not need hospital treatment.
Detective Constable Keith Baron said: "Needless to say, the victim and his family were terrified by the experience of being intruded upon in his own home. He is also recovering from his physical injuries.
"While we seldom deal with incidents like this in Milnrow, we are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything untoward in the area to call us."
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8745 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
