Moss Row improvements
Date published: 16 February 2010
Improvement work to Moss Row sheltered accommodation in Norden has recently been completed.
The extensive work was to stop soil being washed off banking and on to footpaths by installing concrete edgings to retain the land. The grounds have also been tidied and pavements stripped of compacted soil – making them slip free and safer for residents.
Marion Curduff, aged 87, resident at Moss Row, said: “The improvements will allow me to go for walks around the building – something I couldn’t do before due to the soil on the paths.”
Karen Tweedale, RBH Warden at Moss Row, added: “The work completed will make a big difference to the lives of our residents.”
The work was carried out by the 'Green Team', a partnership between Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale.
Anthony McLean, Green Team Supervisor, said: “I am very pleased and proud of the work done at Moss Row in Norden. The lads are on week 12 of the intensive 26 week programme. Through their hard work and determination they have progressed in to skilled operatives able to complete a wide variety of tasks – as demonstrated on this project.”
Green Team member, Luke Kelly, aged 19 from Langley, commented: “I’ve done all sorts on this job. Mixing, digging, edging, using the stihl saw and putting the skills I’ve learned into practice. Knowing that I’m learning whilst helping the public is very rewarding.”
Since November 2009, the Green Team has improved a number of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing sites including Hollin estate in Middleton, Queen's Drive in Kirkholt, Firgrove in Milnrow, Wood Street and Boarshaw in Middleton and Moss Row in Norden.
