Tyre slasher strikes in Spotland

Date published: 26 February 2010

Shortly after 7am on Friday 26 February 2010, police in Rochdale received reports that tyres on a number of cars in the Spotland Road area of the town had been slashed.

One resident of Rooley Moor Road, Mr Brannigan, noticed his tyres slashed when he went outside to leave for a business appointment at 8.30am.

Mr Brannigan said: "I then looked around to see if this had happened to other vehicles of which it had happened to at least seven vehicles that I could see straight away, including my girlfriend's - two  tyres on every vehicle involved have been slashed.

"I reported to the police and received a crime reference number. They informed me they had received many calls from residents of the surrounding area.

"This has caused me to miss a valuable business appointment. Plus I will be £250 out of pocket for my tyres to be repaired. My girlfriend will be £110 out of pocket.

"This mindless act has caused me to feel unsafe, annoyed, inconvenienced and well out of pocket due to someone's mindless stupidity and criminality! "

Police say inquiries are ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

This happened about 18 months to 2 years ago in the Newbold area, then shortly after lead from front door canopies was stripped off of around 138 properties.

They were setting fire to cars in the same area before Christmas, as I recall!
