Cycle facilities for Metrolink
Date published: 09 March 2010
Provision for cycle parking will be incorporated into the designs of new bus stations across the city region, including the new station at Rochdale.
GMPTE, which owns the tram system, has presented plans for improvements to cycle parking and storage facilities on the Metrolink network to Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority’s (GMITA) Capital Projects Committee.
Under the plans stops currently being built as part of the Metrolink extensions and each of the new Park and Ride sites will have cycle parking facilities, where appropriate.
Richard Knowles, Chairman of the Capital Projects Committee, said: “The proposals are very welcome and reflect our commitment to developing and improving integration on the city region’s public transport network.
“Cycling has become increasingly popular in recent years and the provision of enhanced cycle facilities at Metrolink stops, Park and Ride sites and bus stations will open up new opportunities for cyclists to connect with public transport.”

This sounds like good news, but is a little hypocritical, considering the other recent story about cycling and Metrolink, which confirmed that cycles will not be permitted on trams. Are they trying to encourage cycling or not?
