Power cuts disrupt celebrations
Date published: 15 March 2010
The residents of Alder Road and Kirklee Estate, Castleton spent the majority of Sunday having their Mother's Day celebrations severely disrupted by a series of intermittent power cuts.
The first power failure occurred shortly after 9am, with the most severe, which completely blacked out the estate, occurring from 5pm until shortly after midnight.
Local resident, John Heyworth said: "The cuts were disruptive to say the least, just when you thought the power had been restored off it went again. It was quite eerie in the evening with most houses lit only by candles. I assume many of my neighbours will have taken to their beds very early last night."
United Utilities said the fault was due to: "problems at the substation located on Grant Street, Castleton."

Heywood in the dark last Thursday and now Castleton. Something fishy going on? Good job we have those massive wind turbines at Knowl Hill. Cough.
