Runner excited by marathon challenge

Date published: 16 October 2010

A hardened endurance runner is training for his biggest test yet in preparation for the London Marathon.

Middleton Rotary Club member Keith Trinnaman has raised thousands of pounds for good causes in the last few years and hopes to do the same before next April’s race.

This time he is running for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent and has a minimum target of £1,800.

It is the first time Mr Trinnaman has run the marathon but is looking forward to it following his past successes in events such as the Great Manchester Run.

“It is a bit daunting really,” said Mr Trinnaman.

“I am hoping that the crowds that turn up will give me a lift and spur me on.

“Once you get into the stride you just get lost in your own little world.”

Mr Trinnaman started running three years ago after his sister lost her battle with cancer and has since strived to do anything he can to help people suffering from the disease.

He said: “She was a great inspiration for me at that time.

“I thought that if she can be so brave then I can put the same effort in on the running side.”

So far the training is going well, with Mr Trinnaman running up to 10 miles three times a week on the road and in the gym.

In May he ran the Great Manchester Run with nine fellow Rotarians and together managed to raise £4,500 for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

This time, however, he is going it alone.

“They said you are the only one mad enough to do that,” said Mr Trinnaman.

As well as asking friends, family and local businesses for sponsorship, he will be holding a series of fundraising dinners at his home early next year.

The race may still be a long way off, but Mr Trinnaman is hoping to complete the 26 miles in around four hours.

He added: “It is not really about the time. It is more about the charity.”

The Virgin London Marathon takes place on 17 April 2011.
