A Middleton Rotary Club member who took part in the London Marathon has raised thousands of pounds for a children’s charity.

Keith Trinnaman completed the Virgin London Marathon in 4 hours and 56 minutes on Sunday (17 April 2011) and has so far raised around £2,800 for Clic Sargent.

Mr Trinnaman’s target fundraising amount was £1,800. A target he was delighted to exceed. He said: “I have had a fantastic response from people.”

Mr Trinnaman started running three years ago after his sister lost her battle with cancer and has since strived to do anything he can to help people suffering from the disease. In that time he had raised thousands of pounds for charity.

He has now settled on raising money for Clic Sargent because he said one group he wishes didn’t have to suffer from Cancer is children

Thousands of people took part in the marathon on Sunday, in scorching temperatures.

Speaking about the 26.2 mile run, Mr Trinnaman, said: “It was going okay for the first half; I was at the 13 mile mark after two hours. But, by 18 miles I was cramping and it was really tough to keep going. By this point my time target had gone and I was just thinking about getting round.

“The crowd were fantastic, they were brilliant, they were cheering and it really spurred me on.

“I was shattered but it was worth it. The pain I was suffering is nothing compared to what some of the children I was raising money for go through.”

He added: “I would like to do it again.”

Now, would seem to be the right time for a rest but Mr Trinnaman still has the Great Manchester Run to look forward to next month.
