Chairman re-elected to continue ambition of zero waste to landfill

Date published: 22 June 2011

Neil Swannick has been unanimously re-appointed as Chairman of the
Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA).

The Manchester City Council Councillor has been a Member of the Authority since 1999 and has been Chairman for the last 11 years.

Councillor Swannick said: “I am delighted to have been reappointed as Chair and I am looking forward to working with new and existing Members.

“There have been many important changes over the last decade at GMWDA and this forthcoming year will be no exception.

“More exciting times lie ahead, as the majority of our world-class facilities are completed during this next year, which will ensure waste is used as a valuable resource.

“With residents’ support we can reduce and re-use waste, help drive our recycling rates upwards to 50% by 2015 and fulfil our ambition of zero waste to landfill.”
