Police launch ‘where’s yours?’ campaign in Rochdale
Date published: 31 January 2012
Police in Rochdale are urging people to download GPS-enabled applications (apps) on their smartphones and tablet computers to help officers track them down should they be stolen.
The appeal is part of Greater Manchester Police’s Where’s Yours? campaign which is being directed at students in particular.
Promotional material displaying a QR code is being handed out at Hopwood Hall College, and when scanned with a smartphone the code allows people to access advice on downloading apps and protecting valuables.
The technology is free on iPhones and iPads, and is also available in free versions for the Blackberry and other smartphones and tablets.
If a device is ever lost or stolen, the app allows the owner to track its movements by entering their password into another web-enabled computer, tablet or smartphone.
It can also be used to lock devices or delete sensitive data remotely.
Further information on downloading and using these apps is available at www.gmp.police.uk/wheresyours
