Five arrested in cannabis farm clampdown
Date published: 01 February 2012
Five people from across the Rochdale borough have been arrested as part of ongoing police work to tackle cannabis farms.
The arrests came after warrants were executed at six addresses in Heywood, Middleton, Newhey and Milkstone and Deeplish, last week.
Around 140 plants were recovered from four properties and eight bags of cannabis valued at £2,200 were recovered from the other two addresses.
Chief Inspector Mark Bell of Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division said: “There appears to be a belief in some quarters that growing cannabis is allowed, and we need to stamp this out.
“Cannabis is still an illegal drug in this country and growing it is an offence – only last year an offender from Rochdale was sentenced to 16 months for this crime.
“Criminals need to understand that we will prosecute them at every opportunity if they are involved in either cultivating or dealing this drug.”
Four of those arrested were bailed pending further enquiries and one was cautioned.

Why do police waste their time and public money arresting people who seek, through herbal use, the betterment of civilisation? Medicinally, socially, economically and industrially this plant is being squandered and all because the governments of this world won't open their eyes and accept facts from legitimate scientists.
What a waste of tax payers money and police resources! About time you went after some real criminals. What about sorting some of the heroin/cocaine dealers out for once?!

Instead of producing cannabis in clandestine and often very unhealthy conditions, as is encouraged by prohibition, we need to be moving towards a more honest and open system of regulation as suggested by Sir Richard Branson. Currently youngsters are easy prey for the villains who were given the entire market by prohibition. We need to protect the youth with a properly regulated supply with age controls, ID checks etc. Legalise regulate and tax for a happier brighter future.
