Community ‘united in concern’ over rat running in alleyway
Date published: 21 February 2012
Residents are calling for an alleyway that runs between Well I’ Th’ Lane and Schofield Street to be closed off.
The alleyway is often used as a short cut onto the Queensway/Kingsway junction.
Residents have become so irritated that the alleyway is being used as a shortcut and being used by motorists travelling at speed, causing dangers for children who play in the area, that they want alley gates to be installed.
Councillor Pat Colclough is backing the residents call for an alley gating scheme.
Councillor Colclough has liaised with the council’s community safety department over the matter and has also found a resident who will act as the neighbourhood liaison point.
She said: “I have talked with a lot of local residents who live adjoining onto this alleyway. They are all united in their concern and that they want to see something done about the dangerous rat running which continues to be a major frustration for them.
“By installing alley gates, this will create a necessary barrier to stop drivers from reaching the alleyway when traffic accumulates on Well I’ Th’ Lane, but it will also allow access for local residents which is important.”
