Too much government interference says councillor
Date published: 22 January 2008
Councillor Jean Ashworth has criticised Labour parliamentary candidate Simon Danczuk for calling for boxing to be re-introduced to schools, she says: "Just who does he think he is kidding? If a child wants to learn boxing then do as other children and their parents do and do so after school hours and join a club.
"If schools want to do it then to benefit all children introduce it to after school clubs so that all children have an equal chance and most important choice!
"This government is also bringing back cookery classes - who took them away in the first place I wonder?
"What will they think of next could we see woodwork and needlecraft being re-introduced, as they should be! These were important basic life skills, yet taken out of the curriculum by this government.
"Far too much government interference has destroyed our children’s education and our health."
