Tania Taylor, the Dementia Adviser for Alzheimer’s Society Rochdale, said: "These events are not only a fantastic opportunity to get information and advice about dementia but also a great way to raise much needed funds and get people talking about dementia. We hope lots of people will join us this Dementia Awareness Week.

"We need to tackle the misunderstanding surrounding dementia if we are to ensure people with dementia are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. These events are a great opportunity to spend some time, whether you have five minutes or half an hour, to learn a bit more about dementia."

The events will also include a raffle with prizes that have been donated to the Alzheimer’s Society such as handmade jewellery and a set of Crystal Cut Glasses. The money raised will help the Society support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.

Alzheimer’s Society is also hoping that local businesses and individuals will hold their own fundraising events between 20 – 26 May 2012 to raise valuable funds for people with dementia and their carers. There are as many as over 750,000 people in the UK with dementia and as many as 2248 in the Borough of Rochdale.
