Date published: 19 December 2012

Four people have been arrested and one charged following an operation targeting sexual offences.

In the early hours of Tuesday 18 December 2012, officers from the Serious Sexual Offences Unit coordinated the arrest of a variety of men in connection with separate and unconnected reports of rape.

The warrants took place across Greater Manchester, including in Rochdale.

Four men aged 20, 42, 30 and 34 were arrested on suspicion of rape with a further arrest taking place in respect of witness intimidation.

Another man, James Carr 18/01/1983 from Greater Manchester was charged with two counts of sexual assault by penetration. He appeared before Bury Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 18 December 2012 and was remanded into custody.

Detective Inspector Jamie Daniels from the Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “We take all reports of sexual assaults and rape very seriously and I would ask anyone who has been a victim to report it to police as soon as possible.

“We have specially trained officers available to help victims of rape and sexual assault and a dedicated, committed and tactful team of officers who will leave no stone unturned as part of their investigation into these distressing and harmful offences."
