Rochdale thespians face final curtain call

Date published: 07 January 2013

Rochdale Amateur Operatic Society (RAOS) were proud to perform songs from their forthcoming show, the new musical Witchfinder, at the recent Sixth Form College Awards Ceremony at Rochdale Town Hall.

RAOS have been in existence for over 100 years, but rising theatre costs have forced them to sing for their supper as they try to attract a new audience and sponsors for their February show.

The Gracie Fields Theatre has been the home of RAOS since 1977, however, theatre hire costs have risen by a staggering 40% this year, so unless a sponsor can be found this could be the Society’s last production.

Kath Meredith, RAOS Secretary, commented: “We’re looking for local businesses to sponsor the show and help us to keep musical theatre alive in Rochdale. In return, RAOS can offer free advertising in our programme and on our banners. We are also looking for anyone willing to sponsor an aspect of the show such as the lighting, sound, orchestra or scenery.”

Kath added: “Witchfinder looks set to be an amazing show and we hope people will join us for this exciting new musical, based on the story of The Pendle Witch Trial. It has a story to enthral and incredible music, which has been compared to that of West End favourite Les Miserables.”
