Elderly woman robbed

Date published: 26 March 2013

An 80-year-old woman had her purse snatched and her wedding ring stolen in a robbery in Rochdale.

Between 11.00am and 12.00pm on Tuesday 19 March 2013, two men approached an 80-year-old woman at the top of Yorkshire Street at the junction with Cheetham Street.

They pushed her against a road sign, snatched her purse from her hand and took off her wedding ring. They ran off down Yorkshire Street.

The two men are described as being in their late teens, either black or Asian, with black hair. One was slightly taller than the other who was wearing wide rim glasses.

The woman suffered a fractured wrist and a cut to her shoulder.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information.

Detective Constable Ruth Thompson, from Rochdale INPT, said: "These thieves have caused an elderly woman immeasurable distress and they need to be caught. Not only has she been left with a great deal of emotional upset, but she has suffered a broken wrist as well.

"I would urge anyone who may have seen the robbery take place, or two young men running away down Yorkshire Street, to call police."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 1707 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
