Heywood Charities Fete: 'best yet'

Date published: 01 September 2013

This year's Heywood Charities fete has been described as the “best yet” by Mayor Councillor Peter Rush and organiser George Kinder.

Mayor Rush said: “This year has been the best I have ever seen it. The committee have done a good job with small numbers and with 100% co-operation from Heywood, this is the best ever.”

Held at Queen's Park, Heywood, the charities fete saw local charities line the park to raise money for their causes.

Charities involved included Lancashire Wildlife, Marie Cure Cancer Care, Wish Upon a Star and the MS Society.

The park was also filled with fairground rides, carnival games, face painting, Tricks 4 Treats dog agility show, Viking arena and performances on the bandstand.

The Red Arrows also joined the fun by flying over the park at 1:43pm.

George Kinder from the Rotary Club said: “Today has gone really really well. This is definitely the best year ever. This is a fabulous event for Heywood.

“And to have the red arrows involved was fantastic. They told me they get 2,000 requests a year so we have been very lucky.”

Ronald Potter, a friend of George’s who travelled from Sale to help with the fete, said: “The Red Arrows were fabulous. It was brilliant.”

The Charities Fete Committee comprises individuals from Heywood and members of groups in Heywood including, Rotary, Lions, Scouts, Guides and the Business Group.

Money was raised for the charities through tombolas, raffles and games will be distributed by the Committee at their AGM in February 2014.

Any groups wishing to apply for a grant can do so by emailing hcfete@hotmail.co.uk or in writing to Heywood Charities Fete Committee, 37 Royal Avenue, Heywood, OL10 2DG.
