Rotary Club of Middleton runs third Dragons Den initiative

Date published: 19 September 2013

The Rotary Club of Middleton is inviting local charities and community groups to bid for cash donations of up to £1000 in their third Dragons Den initiative.

The club is urging Middleton community groups and organisations to get in touch and apply for a cash boost for their projects.

Stuart Sawle, President of The Rotary Club of Middleton said: “This initiative is incredibly successful. We have seen a number of organisations who have benefited from the donations including Middleton Trampolining Club and the Middleton Ladies Football Team.”

The initiative has now been running for three years.

The Rotary Club of Middleton raises around £11,000 a year through various activities including Christmas street collections with Father Christmas and his sleigh as well as other gathering initiatives.

The money raised through these events is then distributed within the local community, to charities, groups and individuals seeking financial support for a broad range of causes.

Stuart added: “The Rotary Club is very good at raising money so this is our way of helping local community groups.”

To secure support of the Rotary Club, a short application form should be submitted by 1 November. Shortlisted bidders will then be invited to make a brief presentation to club members during December.

Stuart explained: “We usually get about 14-20 applicants a year. We then shortlist the applicants who are then asked to make a brief presentation to the club. After that we look at a few criteria including ‘is this a good idea?’ and 'is this going to help locally?’.”

Cheques will then be presented to successful applicants in the New Year.

The closing date for applications is 1 November 2013.
