Nine charged following £500,000 credit card scam

Nine people have been charged following an investigation into a £500,000 credit card scam.

  • Ammar Khalid (born 10/10/1987), of Elder Street, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012 and possession of a Class B drug;
  • Irfan Khan (born 25/03/1988), of King Street South, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012;
  • Sohail Pasha (born 15/12/1987), of Milkstone Road, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012;
  • Hamza Mughal (born 01/08/1988), of Surma Close, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012;
  • Shazad Arshad (born 10/10/1994) of Anne Linne Close, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012;
  • Faraz Malik (born 04/10/1986) of Bosworth Street, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012;
  • Aqeel Malik (born 26/11/1986) of Bertha Road, Rochdale, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012;
  • Chris Goodhew (born 09/04/1984), of no fixed abode, is charged between June 2011 and November 2012
  • Sohail Khan (born 12/08/1988) of Grange Avenue, Oldham, is charged with conspiracy to defraud between June 2011 and November 2012.

The charges relate to an investigation by Greater Manchester Police's Volume Fraud Team into reports that compromised credit cards were used to place orders with wholesale companies over the telephone.

The goods were then delivered within the Greater Manchester area.

It is estimated there are more than 60 crimes with victims all across the country. The combined value of the goods stolen is around £500,000 over an 18-month period dating from June 2011 to November 2012.
