Health Trust launches new digital care system

Date published: 26 December 2013

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust has launched a two-year programme to roll out a new electronic patient record system across all of its community and mental health services. Known as Paris, the system will help to streamline systems and processes and improve the quality of patient information available, as well as reducing duplication and paperwork.

The children’s community nursing teams from Bury, Oldham and Rochdale were the first services to start using the system. Nurses have been trained and issued with mobile tablet devices to allow them to access Paris at the point of care, whilst working with a patient. This means that they no longer have to use paper-based systems and will not have to return to base to update a patient’s record, freeing up more time to deliver patient care.

Jane Ramm, Advanced Practitioner and Clinical Lead, said: “Being one of the first services to go live with Paris has been daunting but it is exciting at the same time. The team have really stepped up to the challenge and have embraced the change, which is fantastic. We can definitely see the advantages that the system will bring and it has been a real catalyst to harmonise our systems, processes and practices with other teams.”

Martin Roe, Acting Chief Executive, visited the teams. He said: “The introduction of Paris and mobile working will transform the way we provide clinical services. As the first service to go live, the Children’s Community Nursing Teams are very much leading the way and I am looking forward to seeing the service transformation that Paris will enable in the future.”

Pennine Care selected Paris as its preferred clinical information system following a procurement exercise in collaboration with other NHS Trusts from around the North West.
