Redwood School receive cheque for sensory garden

Date published: 09 January 2014

Redwood School has received a cheque for £1,500 from The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre which will help with improvements to their sensory garden.

Money was been raised by the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre through a variety of events throughout December, including Santa’s grotto and Christmas wrapping.

Mark Dale from Redwood School said: “The events have been free but people could make donations.

“We will be getting a wheelchair accessible roundabout for the garden.”

The roundabout will then be in place for the 60 students in the school who use a wheelchair or mobility aid throughout their day at school. It is also hoped that the roundabout will be used by other special needs students who access youth clubs or holiday clubs during the year.

The overall cost for the roundabout is £8,000. The money donated by The Wheatsheaf centre will be added to the £1,200 raised by the
school through their Christmas fair and another £100 raised through Paypal donations.

“We are hoping that once all the money is in, we can start work on some of the things we have planned by spring,” said Mark.

Redwood SEN School is situated within the Oulder Hill Community School site and is a pioneering special secondary school.

Mark added: “We would like to thank everybody for their generosity and The Wheatsheaf for all of their help.”
