Smithy Bridge signal box closes

Smithy Bridge Station Signal Box
The signal box at Smithy Bridge Station has closed as signalling will now be controlled by a new Rochdale West box.
The box controlled level crossings and acted as a fringe box to Preston PSB from 1973. In 2011 the box was downgraded from a blockpost to a crossing box.
As of Friday 18 January, name boards for the box were still in place and it is understood that one of them might be placed at the station as a memento.
Demolition for the box is anticipated for March this year.
