A 17-year-old has been charged with section 18 assault following an assault on two men in Heywood, one of whom was left in a critical condition.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, was due to appear at Bury Magistrates Court on Tuesday 18 February 2014.

A 20-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of S18 assault and has been bailed until 20 March 2014 pending further enquiries.

Two men were reported to have forced their way into the flat in the early hours of Sunday 16 February 2014 and assaulted two men, both aged 28.

One of the men was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition. The other man suffered minor injuries to his face.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Butterworth said: “We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this assault, however we would ask if anyone has any information about it that they contact police.”
