Littleborough Easter egg hunt going down a treat

Date published: 11 April 2014

An Easter egg hunt set up around Littleboough is going down a treat with local businesses in the area.

The hunt, which is ongoing throughout the Easter break, has been set up as a way to encourage people to shop locally. Those taking part in the hunt have to find the eggs hidden in participating shops. Once an egg is found, you write the number of that egg next to the shop name on the entry form.

Joanne Matthews, Owner of Best Dressed, said: “I have always taken part in the hunt. I don’t remember a time that it didn’t take place. It is good for the children and I do think it drives business because the parents have to come in as well.”

Neela Jackson, Owner of The Star Tree Studio said: “I like to get involved with anything that helps to promote Littleborough and that helps to show people what is on their doorstep. For me, it has brought in around a dozen people and some of them didn’t know we sold toys so that has been good for us. I would definitely do it again because I do think it is good for business.”

Julie Pimlott, a member of staff at Fingerprint, said: “Our egg is in the window so people don’t necessarily have to come in but we have had a few people coming in to have a look.”

Carole Stirzaker, owner of the Flower and the Glory, said: “We have had quite a lot of people in who are taking part in the hunt. We like to get involved with these community events and have contributed to the cost of the prize as well.”

Manger of The Village Bakery, Angela Towers said: “It is great. The children are loving it. When they come in and find the egg I give them some sweets so they are getting a little treat as well.”

Susan Hampson, owner of Thimbles, described the hunt as “fantastic.” She added: “It is absolutely brilliant. We have had a great response to it with lots of people coming in and getting involved. I have had a lot of people coming in and saying that they didn’t even know we were here so it is really good to promote business.”

Julie Gilmore, owner of Occasions and Celebrations, is taking part in her first community event after buying the premises in December. She said: “I have found it great. It has been a really great experience and has been really beneficial. It has brought people in to the shop to have a look around and to see the changes we have made and we have had people buy things off of the back of the hunt. I would definitely get involved with something like this again.”

Entry forms for the hunt are available through participating stores on Church Street, Hare Hill Road and Victoria Street. Completed forms are to be posted into the box in the Star Tree Studio on Victoria Street before 3.00pm on Saturday 19 April.
