Redwoood School takes part in BBC School Report

Date published: 14 April 2014

Students at Redwood Secondary School took part in the BBC School Report, an inclusive project which works with all types of schools, including a wide range of SEN and special schools.

The project aims to engage young people of all abilities in news and the world around them by helping them produce their own reports on stories which matter to them.

Pupils from Redwood chose to produce stories they wanted to work on and broadcasted them for real to be seen on the school website.

Students reported on topics including:

  • Canalathon
  • John Willis
  • World Cup odds
  • Famous people achieving despite their difficulties
  • Olympic funding cuts for paralympic sports
  • Building a car at MANTRA
  • Commando Joes

A spokesperson for Redwood Secondary School said: “This is a great way of improving literacy and learning to write as a journalist in a fun way.”

The BBC School Report is an annual project involving thousands of students from hundreds of schools across the UK. As part of the project, students can learn to be journalists throughout the year with the help of the BBC.
