Olympian James Cracknell to host Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Staff Awards 2014

Olympian and endurance adventurer James Cracknell OBE has been confirmed as this year’s special guest to host The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s fifth annual Staff Awards event in June.

The Pennine Acute Staff Awards consist of 13 award categories which recognise the very best of patient care, skill and innovation among the 9,000 staff within the Trust’s four hospitals and community services including Rochdale Infirmary, North Manchester and Fairfield General Hospitals and The Royal Oldham Hospital.

Staff across the Trust have the opportunity to nominate a colleague or team for an award who they believe have gone that extra mile and deserves recognition for their care, compassion, commitment and dedication.

This year sees the introduction of a new award – the Volunteer of the year Award which will recognise an individual from within the Trust’s 900 volunteers who has excelled in their role and delivered excellent service in demonstrating Trust values and making a real difference to patients.

Patients’ Choice Award

The Trust is again this year inviting the public to get involved and nominate a member of staff or team in a special award category called the ‘Pennine Patients’ Choice Award’. The award gives the general public and Trust members the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ and publicly recognises the outstanding care and treatment given to either them, a relative or close friend. An independent judging panel will select the winner.

Dr Gillian Fairfield, Chief Executive of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Since my appointment and joining the Trust a few weeks ago I have been really impressed with the commitment and dedication of the staff that work across our services. I have seen some fantastic care delivered by passionate and professional staff doing their utmost to deliver the best for their patients. I firmly believe that in the NHS all of us want to provide high quality care each and every day no matter how complex or how difficult that may be.

“These annual Staff Awards aim to reward and recognise those staff and volunteers who make a real difference – every day - to the lives of local people who need the Trust’s services. They are a key part of our organisation celebrating success of staff – whether individuals, teams or whole wards. I know there are many of our staff who go that extra mile for patient care, have done something extraordinary, perhaps come up with innovative ideas or simply make our Trust a more welcoming and caring place to work and be treated. We are encouraging the public and our members to be involved in nominating staff who deserve recognition for the Patients’ Choice Award.”
