Mini Pioneers Baskets

Date published: 24 April 2014

Rochdale Pioneers Museum is launching their new Mini Pioneers Baskets on Saturday 3 May.

The baskets have been specially designed, by artist Sarah Marsh, for families with children aged 1-5 years. They contain specially selected items to enable young children to interact with the displays and explore the museum. The baskets are a twist on the now relatively common family backpacks offered by many museums.

The Rochdale Pioneers Museum is known as the birthplace of the global co-operative movement as it is here, on 21 December 1844, that the Rochdale Pioneers opened their co-operative store selling honest food at honest prices.

Museum Manager Jenny Mabbott says: “We started with the idea of a backpack but then Sarah suggested baskets. We thought this was a great idea as baskets make a great link with the co-op and shopping. We hope lots of families will come and trial the baskets at our special launch day event.”

The Mini Pioneers Baskets launch event will take place on Saturday 3 May between 11am and 3pm. There is no need to book and families can drop in between 11am and 3pm.

There will also be a sensory workshop upstairs in the Learning Loft between 1pm – 3pm. The event is suitable for families with children aged 1 – 5.

There will be activities available for older siblings too including a bee trail. The event is free, but donations to support the museum are greatly appreciated.
