World War Two hero, Ken Dutton, dies

Middleton man, Ken Dutton, a World War Two RAF gunner, has died.
Ken, who was part of the 88 squadron, died on Thursday 10 April at North Manchester General Hospital.
Born in Crumpsall in 1922, Ken joined the RAF in 1942 and trained as a wireless operator and machine gunner.
The 88 squadron were a flying squad which flew into military territory to knock out bridges, railways and other military installations.
The squadron would often use speed and low altitude flying to try and evade the enemy.
With the squadron, Ken and three others flew Boston’s across the English Channel to Northern France and Belgium to strike key military targets.
After leaving the RAF, Ken travelled the world as a chemical engineer with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in Blackley.
Ken and his wife Edna moved to Ennerdale Road, Langley in 1952 before moving to Alkrington in 1957.
Ken is survived by his wife Edna and daughters Pauline and Gillian.
A funeral service and committal will be held tomorrow (Friday 25 April) at Middleton crematorium at 2:20pm.
