Rebecca Knox to release first album after support from Lisa Stansfield

Date published: 02 May 2014

Rochdale singer Rebecca Knox is due to release her first album, Crazy Love on 4 August. The album comes off of the back of a 10 year process to complete the final product.

Rebecca, who has been singing for as long as she can remember, said: “I’ve always sung so I would say I have been singing for around twenty years. I think I started in junior school, so it really is for as long as I can remember.”

This will be the first album released by Rebecca and is described as a “very up tempo and soulful” album by the singer.

Rebecca sings a variety of styles of music including RnB and soul and is often seen performing is pubs and clubs across Rochdale.

The opportunity to make an album came about after a demo tape was passed to Ian Devaney and Rochdale singer Lisa Stansfield. Rebecca was then given access to Lisa's Rochdale based recording studio, Gracieland, to make her album. She said: “It has taken about ten years to get the album done. It has taken that long due to a number of factors like changing songs and changing the style.”

Crazy Love will now be released at the beginning of August. Rebecca added: “The album is a journey for me. Each song tells a different piece of my life and talks about different things.”

The album got its name from one of the songs. The album was originally called Eight but Rebecca made the decision to change the title. “I was going to call it Eight because of the eighth year that the album was being made plus there was a song called Eight but after looking over things I felt that the song had more of a negative feel to it so I decided to go for a more upbeat title,” said Rebecca.

Lisa Stansfield has been on hand to offer help and advice to Rebecca but has not yet heard the final finished album. “I have been able to go to Lisa for advice on songs and things but she hasn’t heard the entire album yet. She has heard a few songs but I will be sending her a copy when I can,” added Rebecca.

Rebecca has also worked on the album with drummer Kevin Whitehead, a drummer for Lisa Stansfield and John Lee’s Barclay James Harvest and Graham Chadwick. “My album really wouldn’t have been possible without the people I have worked with,” said Rebecca.

Rebecca already has plans for a second album. Rebecca said: “Whether or not this album is successful, I already have plans and ideas for the second one and will start working on that one after this one was been released.”
